A series of free and interactive tutorials to Python

Welcome to the DCU Python Tutorials. This short course will teach you the basic syntax and vocabulary used to code in Python. These tutorials are focusing on the Tidyverse R coding style as it is the best to start in my opinion. At the end of these tutorials you will be able to clean and transform a data set, as well as creating fancy visualisations using Python.

Chapter 0: Getting Started

This chapter is a quick introduction to how the tutorials work. It also sets up your Python environment to start coding interactively.

Chapter 1: Python Basics

This chapter introduces the basic concepts of Python syntax such as arithmetic operations, logical operations, variable assignment, lists, and functions.

Chapter 2: Data Wrangling with Polars

This chapter introduces the Polars library for data wrangling in Python, covering select, filter, with_columns, group_by, agg, and method chaining.

Chapter 3: Data Visualisation with plotnine

This chapter introduces the plotnine package for data visualisation in Python, based on the grammar of graphics.

Chapter 4: Putting It All Together

This chapter combines everything you have learned to perform complete data analysis workflows, from loading data to creating publication-ready visualisations.
